INNSBRUCK - Canada Ice Hockey coach Curtis HUNT (CAN) has revealed how important social media has been in bonding a team that has never played together before.

With individual players located throughout Canada, HUNT relied on modern-day technology to build a strong spirit within his team, which is one of the favourites for the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games Ice Hockey Competition.

"We've been taking advantage of social media, getting the guys to interact as much as possible on the internet," HUNT said.

"We had one day together in Toronto so we took time to get to know each other and do some team-building and trust work, and work on the communication."

Player Brendan NICKERSON (CAN), who comes from Cape Sable Island, the southernmost point of Canada's eastern province of Nova Scotia, was more aware than most of how crucial social media was in team bonding.

"The Internet was just so important, especially for me, being so far away from everyone," he said.

"Coming together as one team is key and getting together online and getting to know one another has been good."

With the Innsbruck 2012 Ice Hockey competition starting on Friday, coach HUNT wants his boys to spend as much time together as possible.

"Today was our second-ever practice," he said. "We're just doing everything together."

"Here in Innsbruck we just have to get together and go play without fear, like young guys do."
