7 Quotes To Live & Play By

While there are a ton of quotes out there written by very wise people, there are a few that I’ve heard personally which have helped me throughout the years in my everyday life and also out on the ice.
Many of these I’ve heard from the best coach I’ve ever played for, who’s now coaching the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Apply these quotes to your life and start making a difference!
7 Quotes To Live & Play By

It’s not the strongest of the species that survive, but those that are most adaptive to change .
It’s not about being the best, it’s about being smart and adapting to any situation that comes your way so that you can overcome it.

A hero is someone who lasts just a little bit longer than everybody else.
The difference between a champion and a loser is their willingness to win. It’s the person who can give 100% maximum effort the longest that’s going to come out on top.

Work hard when nobody is watching.
Don’t be one of those guys that decides to work hard because the coach is watching or because there’s a scout in the stands. Real dedicated players don’t need recognition for their hard work because they know it’s what’s going to get them to where they want to be. They don’t need a pat on the back; they’re working hard for themselves and nobody else.

The best leaders are always the best servers.
To be a good leader, you must first learn how to serve. That means giving a helping hand by doing that little extra you weren’t asked to do. Over time, you will be respected and looked up to as a real leader by your actions.

Expect nothing but the hardest challenge of your life.
Before a big game, expect it to go into triple overtime or more. Expect to be injured, expect to bleed, expect to lose some teeth. When you’re expecting the worst, you’re ready for whatever comes your way and you’ll be able to deal with it. If  it ends up being easier, then it’s just icing on the cake. Always expect a tough challenge in life and on the ice in order to be ready for everything!

Nothing great has ever been accomplished without enthusiasm.
If you don’t like what you’re doing, you won’t accomplish anything. Scratch that. If you don’t LOVE what you’re doing, you won’t accomplish anything. You need to eat, sleep, breath whatever it is that you do in order to put your heart & soul into it. Of course, you can just get by by having a slight interest in what you do. But you’ll only take your career or your game to the next level if you make it your life goal to do so.

Practice doesn’t make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect.
Sure, anyone could step out onto the ice 7 days a week, go through the motions and then tell themselves that they’ve practiced hard all week so they HAVE to have success next game. Not true. Success doesn’t just happen. You need to make it happen. And that starts with not only practicing, but practicing PERFECT. Your goal during practice should be to get better, not stay the same or get worse. Next time you practice, try having a perfect or near perfect practice. This is what prepares you for what lies ahead, because you’re ready.

These are just a few quotes that I do my best to live & play by and figured they might help others out as well. Enjoy!
